I know this looks bad and we really don’t know what we are doing. No therapist to work with still, so all we got are Mom’s bright ideas. This is an effort to force him to use his left hand for fine motor functions. When his right arm is free, he won’t use the left at all. You got a better idea? I thought it would be good to have a video sample showing Roxwell’s dexterity. In a few years we will be saying “Remember when you could barely use your left hand?” and it will all be a distant memory.

Kara, I wish i knew somebody who does therapy! Looks like a great idea, and he was using his arm really well. Hang in there! You are right - one day you'll look back and see how far he has come.
I can relate, now that we are without therapists I am forced to keep up his therapy on my own. Way to be resourceful - it will pay off eventually!
Whatever, you big meanie!!! I wanted to reach through the computer screen and hand him his sippy cup! (:
Just kidding, good thinking!
But he is just soooo darn cute whatever he is doing and however he is doing it.
Hopefully it all works out. Looks like you are all working hard.
I used to do an untraditional therapy on a little girl when I was in college. I can't remember all the details of her therapy, but part of the therapy was having her lie on her back and do specific stretches and to rub and do pressure points around her extremities and back with oils. It worked for her. I know she had different issues than your son, but it seems to me that maybe stimulating nerves around the body might help.
You can always e-mail me if you have questions (and hopefully all this therapy stuff I am talking about doesn't sound too weird, but I thought you might like to know.)
I am all for untraditional therapy. Do you have any resource recommendations? I have been using oils (frankincense and helicrysum) on the base of his neck and applying pressure on his affected parts in his arm and foot. He doesn't like it, so it would be nice if I could be more precise and eliminate the stuff that is not doing anything for him.
Trust me Kara, you will be saying "remember when" someday. When we got out Micah's school papers for graduation, we came upon "social stories" that he depended on for the simplest things like riding the bus and preparing for a substitute teacher. He also had a giant schedule for pretty much every minute of the school day from one of his elementary years. It was amazing to see how much progress he made since then and with some patience, fortitude and prayer I know the same will be the case for Roxwell. Love ya!
Along with the therapy, I totally recommend CoQ10, Cod liver oil and Ribose energy to help with the muscle issues. We have the same problems with Tate and he is doing really well. We have done the same things with him to help him use both sides. It has worked so keep it up.
