Brik got a doctor kit for Christmas, he had a lot of fun with it and knew just what to do with every piece since he had just had his 3 year well visit. At his visit the nurse rolled up his sleeve to take his blood pressure, later when the doctor brought the stethoscope to her ears, Brik began to pull his sleeve up again. He was a super patient for the entire visit. I attribute it to the thorough prep I give my children before their visits (Layne did not even cry for his kindergarten shots) One unforeseen event came up, the doctor had a doctor in training with her. So the doctor in training did a check up first on her own. When she left the room, Brik got upset and was crying out "but she didn't check my penis!" He was relieved when he learned that the real doctor would come back and be sure to look at his penis.
Sunday Brik wasn't feeling good, so Layne took the opportunity to play doctor. After giving him shots, listening to his chest and tapping various parts of his body asking if it hurts, he got out the clip board, found a pen and very seriously asked Brik "Are you peeing and pooping okay?" Apparently that is what he remembers from his last visit.
The blood pressure cuff wouldn't fit Jarom, so Brik made do with it around Dad's wrist.
Shots are his favorite. He likes it when we say ouch and cry.
But always lovingly bandages the poke.
This blog is a record of our personalities and how they develop through our experiences as a family.

OBSESSION
Ever since the boys went to Iowa after the baby was born they have been consumed by The Wizard of Oz. Katie (my sister) played the wicked witch (who Brik was still afraid of) The saw the play twice and watched the movie at every moment of down time. Now it is constantly songs, lines and actions being reproduced in the car, at the dinner table, and during clean up time.

Brik is 3!
20 free tokens at Chuck E Cheese's
Free Kids meal and sundae at Red Robin (with an extra sundae forLayne-smart/nice waitress)12 free donuts at Krispy Kreme's
I like the pictures at the table...you can see Layne is getting readyto blow out Brik's "fire" and the redo blow Layne is sad because he has to refrain.
Brik was afraid of Chuck E Cheese and Red Robin, but he still had a fun day. We made him wait until the turned 3 to chew gum, so he got his first peice today. Took a bite, chewed, swallowed. "No, Brik you just chew. Don't swallow. Stick the whole peice in your mouth and just keep it in there, see like this...when you are done you throw it in the garbage." So he sticks the rest of it in his mouth, chew, chew, BIG gulp and it's swallowed. How do you teach a kid to chew gum?
Decipher This...
Layne had a bad day in Primary today so we had him write his new teacher a letter. It takes some creative thinking, but you should be able to read it. I hope so because his teacher didn't get a cheat sheet.
IS Layne a big help?
Layne would be so helpful if I trusted him. He still asks to hold the baby all the time and is really careful with him most of the time, but he has a temper for one, which makes him violent. He fights with his brother around the baby, so he is not focused on being careful. He is curious. the other day I found him bouncing Roxwell in his bouncer way too roughly- just testing the springy-ness I guess. But mostly he thinks he is big and demands big person freedoms. So, even though we have set the rules, he is compelled to overlook them because he has enormous trust in himself that he would never drop the baby. Like walking around the house with him, taking him out of his crib (while standing on the side of the crib) and picking crusties out of his eyes...YIKES! At any rate, he is no doubt the most loving brother. He has no ill will towards him. He is King of the pacifier, always knows where it is and is the first to think of giving it to Roxwell at his slightlest wimper. The other day I was finishing my dinner and Layne was holding him. Roxwell was fussing and was not taking his pacifier. I was waiting for Layne to ask me to take him, but he never did. He patiently talked to him, tried holding him in different positions, tried singing him a song, kept trying the pacifier. I was so impressed that he never got frusterated or mad at him for crying. The love is reciprocated. Roxwell just looks at Layne and smiles. I have to talk all cheesy to him to get one.

"Can I have SAGE after my vegetables?"
Yesterday when Layne insisted on sage for a treat after his lunch. Just thought I would make record of his eccentric personality and early enjoyment of gourmet food. There was a dish I used to make -more than a year ago- with fried sage sprinkled on top. The sage in the garden must have caught his eye and reminded him of the mom I used to be, which triggered a craving that he just couldn't let go.
He's Five
The best day for Layne is a busy one, so this one was packed. He started out spending his birthday money at toys r us, they gave him acrown, a balloon and played happy birthday for him on the intercom. He even got a gumball on our way out (just when he was learning toignore those annoying candy machines at the exits of store) He got to pass out popsicles to his classmates at school and rode home with meinstead of on the bus. He made a big deal out of the luxurious seat and how comfortable it is without his booster.
In the afternoon we stopped by Chucky Cheese's for an hour of fun and a wild ride on the monster truck. Brik only cried the first time, by the sixth he actually thought it was fun. I could never get a good picture of Layne on it because he was always leaning over the side to try to figure out how it worked. He even put a token in and walkedaround it during the ride to see what it looked like from ground level. Afterwards Jarom took him by Krispy Kream to get his free birthday doughnuts. He thought it was great to have a whole box of doughnuts in his possession, but when it came time to eat them he only had room for one and gladly put the second one back in the box fortomorrow (I am wishing I had enough sense to do the same)
We didn't want to throw a wrench in babysitting night, and frankly were pretty birthday-ed out by 5, so we gladly handed over thebirthday boy to the Ahlstroms where he enjoyed a jello treat and presents with his friends.
